About Tony LaRussa’s Animal Rescue Foundation
Tony LaRussa’s Animal Rescue Foundation (ARF) offers dog and cat adoptions to veterans in the San Francisco Bay area through its partnership with Pets for Patriots, and will help them find their new best friends. Inspired in 1990 by a stray cat wandering onto the field during a baseball game between the Oakland Athletics and New York Yankees, then Oakland manager Tony La Russa founded the East Bay region’s first “no kill” shelter.
All veterans and active duty military receive a waived adoption fee and a free training class, with valid military ID. Additionally, ARF offers a Pets for Vets program with added benefits and support, and is available to qualifying veterans adopting dogs with referral from the VA Northern California Health Care System. Contact ARF for more information.
Pets for Patriots benefits are available to any qualified veteran who adopts a program-eligible dog or cat; to receive benefits veterans must be approved by Pets for Patriots prior to adoption through ARF.
Tony LaRussa’s Animal Rescue Foundation (ARF) welcomes monetary donations. For a more hands on experience, become one of their valued volunteers or pet fosters.
