Coast Guard and Marines compete to adopt pets

Mike and Makowski

It’s on! Coast Guard versus Marines  in a competition to see who can be top dog in adopting pets. Sort of…

Mike and Makowski

Mike + Makowski

If you’re a Facebook fan, you know that in the morning of December 7 we shared the news that Michael, an active duty Coast Guardsman serving in Virginia, was honorably adopted by a stunning black lab named Makowski. We thank our partners at the Portsmouth Humane Society for helping us create this dynamic duo.

Michael’s wife, Theresa, summed up their feelings:

Thank you for all of your help and support in helping us get the newest member of our family! We love Makowski very much and can’t imagine not having him in our lives, he is such a blessing.

Later in the day we received news that another honorable adoption took place, this time in California. As we noted at the time, Kevin is an active duty Marine who is about to get a lot more active, now that he’s been honorably adopted by Ollie, a border collie mix. A four-paw salute to our partners at the County of San Diego Department of Animal Services for bringing these two lives together.

Kevin and Ollie are already fast friends:

Ollie is settling in great and he and I are excited to be new buds!

As part of our goal to mitigate animal surrender, both Makowski and Ollie will receive ongoing, discounted medical care from Pets for Patriots veterinary partners in their respective communities. We appreciate the generosity of Shelter Island Veterinary Hospital in San Diego and Brentwood Veterinary Clinic in Chesapeake as they help Michael and Kevin keep their new best friends in top form.

In addition, Michael and Kevin will each receive a $150 gift card from a major pet retailer, paid for by Pets for Patriots, to help them buy pet food and other essentials. This contribution is renewable annually for as long as they are guardians to their new best friends.

Every week, veterans and service members are joining our program and saving last-chance pets. For only $150 you can save two lives by making pet adoption affordable and achievable for our nation’s heroes. Are you ready to Be A Pet’s Hero

    Hi P4P,

So glad to hear that two veterans and two pets are super happy to be together – thanx to Pets For Patriots.

Nice of you to coordinate with the other organizations to provide discounted veterinarian care and for offering an annual gift card to reduce the cost of basic pet needs.
