When I wrote to you earlier this week I told you that we were changing lives coast to coast and had 60 honorable adoptions to celebrate. That number is now 62, and will likely grow in the coming days as a record number of veterans and service members are joining our program to give a last-chance pet a second chance at life.
Since my earlier message, we had two adoptions that highight our growing national footprint.
In upstate New York, Leland, a Navy veteran, honorably adopted an adult cat named Cow (yes, Cow!). On the other coast, a formerly stray Boxer mix named Sophie was saved by a Marine Corps service member in San Diego. Jacob and his beautiful family are already head-over-heels in love with Sophie, telling us:
“She is such an amazing dog. It’s such a blessing to have her in our family!”
Leland and Jacob will receive $150 annually from Pets for Patriots to help with the purchase of pet food and other essentials. Together with access to high quality, discounted medical care provided by our network of veterinary partners, we’re making pet ownership more affordable and achievable for military personnel whose lives are forever transformed by the love of a companion pet.
Help us make more of these life-changing connections possible.
Time is running out to make your tax-deductible contribution for 2011; don’t delay, make it today!
P.S.: Cow has been officially renamed BJ (for Boots Junior). Her new dad Leland says, “Thanks for all your help in getting my family another cat. She is fitting in to the family as if she had never been anywhere else!!…She is proving to be a very mellow cat that was actually starved for attention.”
Best,
Beth Zimmerman | Founder and executive director
