Take a chance on me

There is a dog in a Corpus Christi shelter who is wondering when, or if, someone will take a chance and adopt him.

When he was just a few months old, Chance was adopted to a family that was unfamiliar with Chows and their behavioral needs. After a year-and-a-half they surrendered him back to the shelter, where he has been ever since.

That was more than three-and-a-half years ago.

June 4, 2016 update: Chance is adopted!

Chance 2 PFP

Every day, Chance hopes that his hero will walk through the door to give him the loving, forever home that he – and every shelter animal – so richly deserves. A family to call his own. A permanent respite from being “that dog” who no one seems to want. A recognition that his life matters and that all he wants to do is love, and be loved.

Our partners at Gulf Coast Humane Society have done a tremendous job training Chance – a Chow/Golden Retriever mix – and preparing him for his eventual adoption, but it is time for Chance to go to a real home and family of his own.

Chance is part of the Gulf Coast Humane Society’s SAVE program to help long-term, four-legged residents find homes or – when appropriate – qualified rescues that may have access to more potential adopters.

All serious inquiries should be directed to the shelter, not to Pets for Patriots. But first, a bit more about Chance – including this link to his official bio:

  • Loves the water, the beach, long walks and chasing tennis balls
  • Adores cuddling with his humans
  • Can be protective of his family; needs someone to reassure him
  • Often described as a “life-sized teddy bear”
  • Best in a no-child home, or one with children aged 12+
  • Bonds quickly with women, men take a little more time
  • Great with other dogs, and would love a dog sibling
  • Eligible for adoption through Pets for Patriots’ partnership with Gulf Coast Humane Society, though at this point we all just want Chance to find the best home, whether that is with a veteran or not

Out-of-state adoptions will be considered, as will transfers to qualified rescues. Serious inquiries only to:
