About Tacoma – Pierce County Humane Society
The Tacoma-Pierce County Humane Society offers dog and cat adoptions and will assist Pets for Patriots members in finding their new best friend. Founded in 1888 and now the state’s largest animal welfare agency, the organization has found homes for all adoptable dogs since December 2007. An open admission shelter working towards a no-kill goal, the Tacoma-Pierce County Humane Society took in more than 12,000 animals in 2011 alone.
As part of its commitment to responsible pet ownership, the shelter subsidizes spay/neuter surgeries at local veterinary clinics for pets of low income families. To help promote the pet-person bond, the organization provides comprehensive information for owners to find and be reunited with a lost pet.
The Tacoma-Pierce County Humane Society welcomes monetary donations, as well as contributions of used blankets and towels, high-quality canned pet food, Kong toys and other items; see their complete wish list for details. For a more hands on experience, become one of their valued volunteers or pet fosters.
