About Jefferson County Animal Control

Jefferson County Animal Control offers dog adoptions to veterans in partnership with Pets for Patriots, and will help them find their new best friends. The organization’s goal is to find every dog a forever home, and 85% of all dogs picked up by the municipal agency are returned to their owners, adopted or taken in by reputable 501(c)(3) rescue organizations.

In addition to pet adoption, Jefferson County Animal Control is responsible for enforcing local and state animal control laws, investigating reports of animal cruelty in partnership with the County Sheriff’s Department, and assuring the safe, humane and lawful treatment of animals in the community. As part of this commitment, the shelter works in cooperation with Spay Today to offer individuals a low-cost spay/neuter option with every adoption.

Jefferson County Animal Control is proud to serve Charles Town, Ranson, Shepherdstown, Harpers Ferry and all of the unincorporated areas of Jefferson County with compassion, integrity and professionalism.

Adoption fees include:

First distemper combo vaccine
