About Animal Defense League of Texas

The Animal Defense League of Texas (ADL) offers pet adoptions to Pets for Patriots member Patriots in the San Antonio community, Bexar County, and will help them find their newest family member. Chartered in 1934, the Animal Defense League is a not-for-profit, no-kill shelter for abandoned, abused or neglected dogs and cats. Their mission is to enhance the quality of life for these animals by providing needed medical care, including spay/neuter to reduce pet overpopulation, as well as much-needed compassion and attention. ADL consistently works to find the best possible home for each resident animal while maintaining a healthy and loving facility.

ADL provides a wide range of services and resources, including a full-time veterinarian and staff to treat all resident animals, a low-cost spay/neuter program, humane education as well as pet therapy programs for people with special needs. To assist adopters with their new pet friend, ADL offers a variety of dog training and behavior courses, available to adopters and to the public alike.

ADL is supported by contributions, adoption fees, special events, grants and bequests, and is directed by a volunteer board. The League provides various programs and services which strengthen the bond between animals and people. Through grass roots advocacy, education and rescue, ADL is the leading voice for dogs and cats in crisis. As San Antonio's only true no-kill facility, no animal is ever killed if it can be treated and returned to health, nor to make room for others. For a hands-on experience, consider becoming one of their valued volunteers.
