  • Assignment goal is to synthesize the information provided by the member patriot into a compelling story
  • It is not necessary to tell the veteran's story in the order that s/he provided the information unless that is the best way to tell the story
  • It is not necessary to use all the quotes provided
  • You may make minor adjustments to the quotes only to correct for grammar, punctuation, spelling, etc.
  • Punctuation always resides inside the quote marks, e.g., "like this," and not "like this",
  • Close the story with a compelling call to action or question based upon the story's narrative and place in italics at the end, e.g., What are you more willing and able to do now that you have a pet in your life?

Quotes:

A little about me
Living in Virginia Beach with my wife, Jessie, my 4 year old son, Orion, and our other dog Frisbee, a 13 year old black lab/husky mix.
My military experiences
Joined the Navy in 2009, been stationed in Florida and now in Virginia. Entered the military to fulfill a lifelong dream of joining and serving my country.
Why I chose to adopt a pet
We had 2 dogs for many years and a couple years ago we lost our older of the pair. Frisbee was on his own for the first time in his life. We felt that he needed a companion; another dog to keep him company. Knowing that we didn't want a puppy for our senior dog, we knew going in that we wanted to give a second chance to another senior dog.
Why I chose to adopt through Pets for Patriots
We actually found out about the program while at the shelter.
How my honorably adopted pet has changed my life
Sox has been the best addition to our family. She has so much life for being 12 and she fits right in with out other dog. The two of them are so fun together. She has brought joy and laughter to us and we couldn't imagine out family without her.
What I love most about my new pet friend
We just love how playful she is and how she is loves her new best dog friend. She loves to lay snuggled on the couch with us to watch movies or to go for a walk around the neighborhood with the family.
What I would tell other veterans or service members who might be thinking about adopting through Pets for Patriots
We would absolutely recommend using Pets for Patriots for adoption services. There are many benefits to using their service, but mostly because it is a community of military members with a common goal, to find their new best friend and give them a second chance at life.

From 11/2014 post adoption follow up:

So far, things are great with Sox. She has begun to make herself at home and integrating herself into the family. She did have to go to the clinic and have some work done, but she is home and recovering fine. Our other dog, a 12 year old male, and Sox are doing well with each other. I think they are starting to learn that they are both here to stay. Our family is so happy that we have found Sox and that she has become part of our family.
